Last year my good friend Nicole introduced me to the organization Invisible Children when she brought their traveling ‘roadies’ to B-W to speak to our campus.
The Invisible Children organization is fighting to put an end to the 25 year long war in Uganda.
“The war in northern Uganda has been called the most neglected humanitarian emergency in the world today. For the past 23 years, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Government of Uganda (GoU) have been waging a war that has left nearly two million innocent civilians caught in the middle. The GoU’s attempt to protect its citizens from this rebel militia has largely failed, resulting in an entire generation of youth that has never known peace.”
It is the goal of this organization to help put an end to this war by finding sustainable solutions that encourages peace. This organization started when 3 college aged students went on a trip to Uganda. There they saw the horrific things that were happening.
Once arriving back in the U.S they decided they needed to do something, and that something was Invisible Children.
Right now, their big campaign that is going on is ’25’. On April 25th, myself along with many others will be in this national awareness event called 25. People all around the world will be silent, using our voices (by not using them) to speak out against this 25-year-long war.
I am raising money for this. I have already collected the $25 minimum but I would like to go above this as well. Please visit my fundraising site by clicking here.
This organization is something special. Please take a few moments out of your say today to read about them (and donate).
