April 6th marks the official start of the National Start! Walking Day!
The American Heart Association has established the first Wednesday of April as their National Start! Walking Day. This day is to be set aside to get active and start a healthy lifestyle in our daily lives.
Why should you start walking? Heart disease is this country’s No.1 killer (and this is #1 for women). Exercising for as little as 30 minutes each day you can reduce your risk.
That’s what the Start! Movement is all about. 30 minutes a day.
- Almost 65% of American adults (135 million +) are overweight or obese- and this number continues to grow*
- Sedentary jobs have increased 83% since 1950*
- American work 164 more hours a year than 20 years ago*

It’s that easy. Just walk.
I challenge you to get up today and start walking! It’s so easy- walk to class instead of driving, take your lunch hour and use 30 minutes to walk around the block a few times before you eat or park your car farther away when you grocery shop.
