So a good friend of mine had a status that said that she had ‘just got her US soldiers name!!! Pen pal time!’ SO being curious about this I asked how she did this and then she gave me this link: http://www.adoptaussoldier.org/ So I started to do my research and within minutes I had registered to ‘adopt a solider’.
The process is very easy: accept the terms & conditions & register and you are ready to go! You will get that your registration was accepted and then the next day is when I got my soldiers information. They say to allow about 3 days for them to get your the soldiers information to you. And then, the communication is up to you from there..it can be as little or as much as you want it to be. E-mails (even though the soldiers do not always have access to the internet) or letters & packages- it’s all up to you!
“Adopt A US Soldier is dedicated to connecting supporters of our troops, just like you, with deployed soldiers the world over.
Staffed fully by volunteers, AAUSS has helped thousands of soldiers find friendship, support, and a much loved and much needed touch of home.”
The mission of the AAUSS is:
“To honor active US military personnel, Adopt A US Soldier is a volunteer-based organization that connects supportive citizens of the world with deployed soldiers and offers a channel by which to communicate encouragement and express gratitude to the brave men and women serving our nation.”
So from here on out you might be seeing more posts about things that I am doing with AAUSS- collecting things for care packages for my solider or just different reflections that I have from this experience. However, you will never see me say my soldiers name, home state, where they are at or anything of that nature.
I hope that you feel motivated to ‘adopt’ a solider…today (and leave me a comment that you did it)!
