Being part of the #SAchat community for a while now (I started early as an undergrad by lurking around to gain experience and tips), I have seen various tweets about having a one word resolution. Like this one from my friend Austin:
Well, I was curious and did what I always do and googled it. Found this website called ‘My One Word‘ and started to think about my word that I want to use as ‘My One Word’. The website has a challenge, this is it:
The challenge is simple: lose the long list of changes you want to make this year and instead pick ONE WORD. This process provides clarity by taking all of your big plans for life change and narrowing them down into a single thing. One word focuses on your character and creates a vision for your future. So, we invite you to join us and pick one word in 2012
There are literally 3 steps to complete as you take the journey to figure out what you want your word to be.
Step 1: Determine the kind of person you want to become. Figuring out who you want to be by the end of the year.
Step 2: Identify the characteristics of that person. By stating what time of words that describe this new person, these will help guide to figure out what type of words you need to think of to help you become closer to your one word.
Step 3: Simply pick a word. Now it’s your turn to think of one word and COMMIT to it.
I am not a resolution type of person at all. I always think about them before the new year begins but then completely throw them away before Christmas. Now, how did I come up with My Own Word? I was thinking about the person I wanted to be compared to who I am now.
Change is something that I look forward to as well as listening and hearing what people have to say to me that can help me grow; and I was to take all of this new information become a better person and what better way to do that than to EMBRACE it.
So there it is, My One Word- EMBRACE. With EMBRACE I will take and receive information/anything and do that gladly and eagerly; I will embrace any opportunities that are thrown my way; I will adopt new, all the time; and I will take in everything, with an open mind.
Embracing everything new that I can this year will help me to become a better person, all around.
