June BirchBox Review

June’s BirchBox theme was all about traveling! This box was full of travel-ready samples which works nicely for me and my traveling next month! BirchBox is showing us travel-friendly beauty essentials you should pack ASAPtravel like a VIP without blowing your budget, and easy summer updos. Oh and this article on how to look great post flight (HI I need this for my upcoming trip back to Cleveland)!

There was a quiz that BirchBox created with JetBlue on the destination you should visit. I tied between NYC and Portland, Maine. Although I live in NYC and as much of the city is still a mystery to me (can one person really know ALL of the city?) I have claimed that Portland is my real winner. Here are 5 unexpected travel tips for Portland, Maine.

This Month's Box

Harvey Prince Hello

Harvey Prince Hello - 50 ml - newThe day I received my June BirchBox I was headed to the La Nuit en Rosé for the evening. When I saw a small perfume sample I was excited and even more excited when it was a perfect summer scent!

Hello is made with eco-friendly ingredients; this scent has all-day staying power (yes…it really does). The top note is Meyer lemon which captures the scent of fresh-squeezed lemonade, while Satsuma mandarin adds a double fruity note. The next note, a summer forsythia and pink plumeria give the scent its stimulating floral layer.

I spritz a bit on my wrists and neck for a wonderful lasting scent! PS: Do not rub your wrists together- this breaks the different notes!

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eyeliner

I have a crush on Cynthia Rowley’s eyeliner (and her candy store). My eyelashes are very long and something that I hold close to my heart. I also have fair skin so adding something to my eyes allows a better pop for both my eyes and skin. I’ve been on the hunt for a great pencil and this is it! I was so excited to see it in my box this month!

These creamy pencils glide on so smooth and they last all day- really! I’m thinking about getting the pencil in the violet or the sky blue too! Vegan, cruelty-free, and paraben-free, these liners feature Cynthia Rowley’s signature gold foil design.

Davines OI / All in One MilkLove Smoothing Shampoo, and Smoothing Conditioner

Full of rich roucou oil, the All in One Milk cream supports hair growth and protects it from harmful UV radiation (hello summer help!). Ellagic acid fights off free radicals and cell damage. And for added moisture, provitamin B5 and a functional amino complex condition the hair and keeps it soft during heat styling and prevents unwanted frizz.

But after trying it out I wasn’t much of a fan. I currently use a product similar to this and this sample hasn’t made me think about running out and buying it.

The shampoo formula may not be designed for me because my hair doesn’t have too much frizz (yes you can hate me…I shouldn’t mention that my hair is so straight I rarely need to straighten it…opps..). This gentle shampoo is formulated to tame frizzed-out and tangle-prone hair. It leaves your hair & more manageable. The conditioner gives your hair that high-shine look.

The shampoo has Indian fig extract that moisturizes your hair while olive amphoacetate cleanses. The smell is subtle and very refreshing for my strands. Also noteworthy: the softening olive oil peg-7 ester and strengthening rice proteins.

The conditioner is a combo of silicone-infused moisturizers that help whip your hair into shape. Borage seed oil protects against breakage while rice wax helps prevent parched strands (yay for me- so that’s one thing I can relate to- split ends).

Supergoop! Everyday SPF 30 with Cellular Response Technology

Forgive me, but only as of late I have become a major sunscreen freak. I found out that I have major sensitivity to the sun (more than just being a really fair skin person). So now I’m spraying myself with SPF 50 and carrying around my Supergoop! samples.

It’s a lightweight sunscreen so it quickly soaks into skin and it doesn’t clog your pores (YAY healthy summer skin). It’s loaded with beta-glucan for moisture and free radical-fighting antioxidants to keep skin looking fresh. And its scent is not your typical sunscreen smell; it is a subtle botanical fragrance with hints of citrus and basil.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit

This cleanser contains a moisturizing cocoa butter, and two of nature’s best astringents: eucalyptus essential oil and rosemary (smells fantastic). The plant oils lift dirt off the skin’s surface without disrupting your skin’s natural barrier function. The 100 percent cotton muslin cloth gently exfoliates without irritation, even for the most sensitive complexions.

You gently massage a drop about 2 pea sized onto your dry face and neck in circular motions. Run warm water over your muslin cloth, and sweep over face and neck to remove cleanser, dirt, grime, and oil. Once cleanser is fully removed, splash face with cool water.

I really enjoyed this cleanser but I wish I had the last step. On the paper that comes with this product it explains to use the Instant Boost Skin Tonic but I am lacking that here. After my skin felt really nice and smooth- so fresh!

 My favorite product this month:
